Founded in 2020, SENSE sand sculpture is named after the word "Sen" in the name of its founder Chen Guosen, which is also a homonym of the English word "SENSE".
"SENSE is a compliment to the design, representing a certain attitude towards life," said Guosen.
SENSE sand sculpture is a brand founded by Guosen after he graduated from university and returned home. At that time, all his classmates were starting their own businesses, which made Guosen feel that he could not fall behind, so he founded SENSE sand sculpture, hoping to bring changes to the world through his design expertise.
At the beginning, SENSE sand sculpture's projects were mainly sand sculptures. When Guosen was in college, he began to learn sand sculpture under the introduction of a sand sculpture master. He even took a year off from school and traveled to various large and small sand sculpture projects across Taiwan to learn, including the production of sand sculptures and the planning of sand sculpture exhibitions. He became an independent sand sculptor and won awards in sand sculpture competitions at home and abroad. Therefore, Guosen started with sand sculpture, which he is best at, and developed various sand sculpture education, experiences and tours.
Although Nantou is not a coastal county, Guosen believes that Nantou is a very suitable place for sand sculpture performances.
"Although Nantou is not near the sea, it is close to the Zhuoshui River, which has a lot of silt. Sand and gravel companies will discard a lot of fine sand, which is the best material for making sand sculptures," said Guosen.
Therefore, Guosen uses these fine sands to create large-scale sand sculptures in various places in Nantou, revitalize local idle spaces, and commercialize the sand sculpture experience, so that Nantou, a county not near the sea, can also have the right to "play with sand."
In addition to sand sculptures, SENSE sand sculpture has also collaborated with bamboo art teachers from Zhushan in recent years to use low-carbon and environmentally friendly bamboo materials for lantern festivals and bamboo art performances.
“The bamboo art teachers are very good at making things, but they lack design thinking and don’t know how to turn bamboo into large-scale installation art. Mori-style Creative Art is here to provide them with assistance,” said Guosen.
SENSE sand sculpture will assist bamboo art teachers in the design of large-scale installation art, and identify the pain points of bamboo art teachers through cooperation. For example, when bamboo installation art is produced, an iron frame is needed to burn the structure, but the bamboo art teacher is unable to make the iron frame. Therefore, Mori-style Creative Arts looks for an iron factory to make the iron frame so that the bamboo art teacher can focus on bamboo art production. Finally, Mori-style Creative Arts combines the two into one to present a large-scale bamboo art exhibition.
Guosen hopes that SENSE sand sculpture can become a local design brand in Nantou, not limited to the design of objects or exhibitions, but can also be a reshaping of the place, including finding local DNA, connections between people, building local identity, etc., playing the role of connecting the place through design.
