🎨 Project: Local Portrait Comics: Nantou City Guangming Market
"Using comics to preserve the people of the market." This project centers on the Guangming Market in Nantou City. Through comic creation and portrait illustration, we aim to document the life stories and daily scenes of the market vendors. The project invites vendors to transform into comic characters and participate in co-creating stories. These will be presented through digital media and on-site exhibitions, ensuring the market is not just a place for transactions, but a space of local memory to be read and remembered.
📍 Why Guangming Market? Guangming Market was once the lifeblood of the Guangming Neighborhood in Zhongxing New Village, carrying the daily interactions and heartfelt connections of its residents. Following policy shifts and outward migration, the market gradually declined. As vendors dwindled, many stories and emotions belonging to this place began to fade through time. Although local groups have recently worked to revitalize the market by introducing new stalls and events, there is still a need for creative content that can unify local identity and preserve cultural narratives.
❤️ The Proposer’s Original Intent Lu Tai-yueh has long been dedicated to field research, visual documentation, and exhibition promotion in Nantou. He specializes in using comics and illustrations to present life experiences. He believes that images are more than just records; they are a language that fosters connection and empathy. By blending "market stories" with "graphic creation," he hopes to preserve the emotional bonds between vendors, residents, and the market—ensuring Guangming Market is not just seen, but understood, remembered, and passed down.
