Located at the southernmost tip of the Bagua Mountains, at an altitude of about 400 meters, Mingjian is a plateau with a natural environment suitable for tea cultivation. Not only does it rank first in Taiwan in terms of tea production and planting area, but the varieties grown also include a variety of oolong tea varieties, such as Qingxin Oolong, Jinxuan, Cuiyu, Wuyi, Sijichun, etc., making it the most familiar place name for tea drinkers.
The founders of Tan Jia Lang, Yannong Jhang and Yuhan Cai , are from Tanliao Village in Mingjian. In addition to being an important tea-producing area in Mingjian, this place is also the location of Yuhan's family tea garden.
Yu Han is a third-generation tea farmer. In the past, her parents sold tea in a more traditional way. Now, facing fierce market competition, Yu Han established the tea brand "Tea Addict" in 2018 to sell the fine tea from her own tea garden in order to establish brand value.
However, because Mingjian tea is the most commonly used tea in hand-shaken beverage shops on the market, no matter whether she participates in tea expos or enters department stores, it is difficult to change the public's impression of Mingjian tea as a rough and cheap "commercial tea."
For this reason, Yu Han decided to set up another brand "Tan Jia Lang" with Yan Nong. The name "Tan Jia Lang" comes from the homonym of the Taiwanese word "賺食人", which means a person who works hard. They hope that through the Tan Jia Ren brand, they can lead the public to walk into the tea gardens where Mingjian farmers work hard, experience tea picking, tea baking, tea tasting, etc., and be a tea farmer for a day, so that the public can personally contact Mingjian's high-quality tea with all five senses and change their impression of Mingjian tea.
"Tan Zhi Yan is promoting Mingjian tea externally, while Tan Jia Lang is letting people enter Mingjian and get to know tea from within. We transform Mingjian tea through both internal and external approaches," said Yan Nong.
Tan Jia Lang's activities have achieved good results in promoting tea. Many people got to know more about tea and Mingjian tea by participating in Tan Jia Lang's activities. Some people originally did not like Mingjian tea, but during the experience, they gradually changed their impression of Mingjian tea and realized that in addition to commercial tea, Mingjian also produces high-quality Kung Fu tea. They even became the people who bought the most Mingjian tea among their fellow tour group members.
Perhaps the image of Mingjian tea cannot be reversed so quickly, but the tea from "Tanzhiyan" in Tanliao Village will surely soon become known as a good Kung Fu tea under the hard promotion of "Tan Jia Lang".
